Her tasks to complete left her unhappy and so, after deciding to not pursue journalism, she shifted to the world of publicity. DuVernay was immediately hired after graduating from college as an assistant publicist in a small studio. The year 1999 was the time she launched her own business that specialized in public relations, The DuVernay Agency. In addition, she launched several lifestyle and promotion networks such as Urban Beauty Collective. Urban Eye, HelloBeautiful, and Urban Thought Collective.
